Universe - Season 1

To know our place in the universe take a look far, far away to the realm of Alien Galaxies. Our galaxy is one of hundreds of billions in the universe. The Milky Way consists of more than a billion stars, our sun being only one of them. Take a view of the universe through the Hubble Space telescope and go back almost all the way to the Big Bang. Cutting-edge computer graphics are used to bring the universe down to earth to show what life would be like on other planets, and to imagine what life forms might evolve in alien atmospheres.

Casting for the show began on May 6, 2021[2] and filming for the season took place on September 28 and 29, October 1, 4, 6 and 8, 2021, at London's Excel Centre with live audiences.[3] On September 27, 2021, RuPaul's Drag Race UK judge Graham Norton was announced as the host of the show.[4]

Our Universe, a six-part nature narrated by Morgan Freeman, takes a look at how the formation of the universe, and the elements that make up our solar system specifically, created this planet that we live on, full of millions of different life forms, that have evolved over millions and billions of years. It sounds immense in scope, but creators Naomi Austin, Stephen Cooter and Alice Jones couch these universal concepts, represented by spectacular CGI special effects, with the stories of individual animals in their native habitats.

Our Take: While the photography is spectacular, the special effects are amazing, and the narration has the usual gravity that Freeman brings to such projects, it feels like Our Universe strains to tie its massive concepts down to the nature footage that it shows in each episode. Other episodes of the season will examine the cosmic clock, the changing of the seasons, the elements that make up all matter on the planet, and the miracles of water and gravity. Each massive concept is seen through the story of one particular species: A sea turtle, a brown bear, a chimpanzee, a herd of elements, two king penguins, a cheetah.

The first season of Stargate Universe consists of a total of 20 episodes, a trend with every Stargate season since 2004. This includes a special three-part premiere that aired on October 2, 2009, on Syfy in the United States and SPACE in Canada. Sky1 in the United Kingdom and Ireland began airing the series on October 6. Australia's Sci Fi network first aired the series on October 9, followed by Network Ten on December 18.

The first season broke for a mid-season finale after the tenth episode, "Justice", and returned in April, 2010 with the episode, "Space". During the hiatus, the first season of Caprica - a spin-off of Battlestar Galactica - aired in the SGU timeslot Friday nights on both Syfy and SPACE, airing opposite the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
